This Week's Sunday School Lesson
Josiah became king of Judah when he was only eight years old, and from the very beginning he wanted to do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. As he grew, Josiah began to seek God with all his heart. When he saw that the people of Judah were worshiping idols and false gods, he destroyed them and led the nation back to worship the one true God. While repairing the temple, the priest Hilkiah found "the Book of the Law"- God's Word that had been forgotten for many years. When Josiah heard the words read aloud, he was heartbroken that the people had not obeyed God. He tore his clothes in sorrow and repented before God. Josiah gathered the people, and together they made a promise to obey God's Word. Even though Josiah was a good king, he was still a sinner who needed forgiveness. This story reminds us that Jesus is the perfect King He never sinned but took our sin on Himself at the cross so that we can be made right with God.
